Dog Facts - Hearing Abilities

Hearing Abilities

Dogs are generally more sensitive to sounds that humans and their hearing range is much wider than ours.

The hearing range of an average dog extends from 20 hertz to 100,000 hertz. This is up to 20,000 hertz of human beings. So dogs can hear sounds of rodent prey, which are inaudible to human ears.

This also provides an explanation to why dog whistles that we cannot hear can be heard by dogs at a great distance. This may be the answer to why dog start barking at the night when we think there is silence all around!
