Many people ask how old are dogs as compared to humans. It is said that 1 year in dog’s life is equivalent to 14 years in human life.

This means that at 6 month of age a dog is equivalent to a 7 year old human being. However comparing ages among dogs and humans is very difficult as a lot depends on the breed of the dog, some have shorter lifespan when compared with others.

Breeds like bulldog have a lifespan of six years whereas breeds like dachshund and Papillion have a lifespan of about 15 + years.
Some breeds are known to have limited lifespan due to their size (such as Irish wolfhound and Saint Bernard), genetic defects and other have susceptibility to certain ailments.
Studies into canine life span suggest that smaller and lighter breeds have a edge over other breeds in longevity stakes.
