Finding A Good Dog Obedience School

The very decision to read this article means you are on the right track with you dog and I appreciate your decision to take your dog to a good training school.
Dogs are social animals and love spending time with other dogs and people around. At a dog school you get to spend some quality time with you loved companion and this also help in strengthening the bond between the two.

My personal experience in selecting a good dog school is by word of mouth, asking friends and other people you know. You can try the Yellow Pages or the Internet. I feel the school should not be very far off as the travel can tire for you and your companion.

I would suggest short-listing few and then find out more about them and then reducing the list and once you have a short list - ask for a trial session (this is very helpful in judging the school). Now a days most of the school allow you to be there in one of the classes, observer and take a decision.

Be observant in the trail session and note –

1. The behaviour / expression of other dogs. If the dogs are actively interested in what is going on then this a good sign.

2. The trainer using positive training methods is a positive sign.

3. If the trainer is generating fear or aggression in dog- then move out and try the next school on your list.

4. The trainer must be patient with stubborn dogs and pay special attention to new dog owners.

5. Last but not the least, the trainer should a good communicator to both the dog and the owners.

If you find the session interesting for you and your dog and had a good time - you have found the perfect Dog school!
