Life Span – Pedigree Vs Mixed Breed
Research has shown that mixed breeds tend to live longer than many pure breeds.
However as with purebreds, large and heavily built non pedigrees tend to have shorter lifespan than their smaller and lighter counter parts.
Generally mixed breeds suffer from fewer problems as the gene pool is not limited. Pedigree breeds may be prone to hereditary health ailments, which may have a bearing on the lifespan.
Interesting reports from pet insurance claims that – English setters, Jack Russell terriers and cross bred poodles tend to be healthier than other pedigrees.
