Dogs Advice - Summer Care
In summer when the mercury is soaring high it is not an easy time for our best friends.
Like us our dogs too can suffer from dehydration and sun burns.
Here are few pointers that I would like to share so that the summer season can be a happy and merry time for out pets.
Health Check – Visit your vet and get your dog checked for Heartworms. Also get the vet to suggest a preventive anti tick and flea control program.
Travel Care – If you are traveling with you dog, make sure you carry along cold fresh water for him.
Never Leave the dog alone in a locked car, due to high temperature the car becomes a furnace for the dog even if the windows are open and this can be fatal.
Walk/Play time – The dog should be taken out for walks and play only when the temperature is cool outside. When taking your dog to the shore, make sure you have a shade for him and plenty of fresh water. Make sure you do not take or leave your dog on concrete floor when the sun is shining hot as it can cause burns on the paws.
Age Factor – Special care should be taken to keep the old or overweight dogs in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible.
Grooming - Can stave off summer skin problems, especially for dogs with heavy coats. Shaving the hair to a one-inch length—never down to the skin, please, which depletes protection from the sun—helps prevent overheating
24X7 Water – Make sure to your dog enough fresh water through the day to prevent dehydration.
All dogs should have 24 hour access to water to eliminate any possibility of dehydration. Watering dogs once a day is not enough. All dogs should have a pan, can or bucket that they can't spill.
