Dog Training – Loose Leash Walk

One of the common complaints from dog owners is that their dog pulls during walks. This leads to frustration and dog owners restoring to other devices that supposedly stop pulling, but these are not very safe. So we advise the following two method of training you dog for loose leash walking -

Stop Instantly
In this method stop as soon as the dog starts pulling. Be in this stand till position till the dog walks towards you and the tension in the leash is finished.
As soon as this happen give him a treat to show him that this behavior is desirable.
You may have to treat him even when he shows a slight sign of moving towards you to encourage him.

Turn Around
In this method as soon as there is tension in the leash, you should turn around in opposite direction and start walking. When the Dog turn and follows you, encourage him by treating him.

Tips
1. Timing is the essence, as soon as the dog starts pulling act immediately.
2. As long as the dog is walking with you in correct manner, keep treating him frequently.
3. Have at least 6 feet long leash.
4. Do not keep the leash tout
5. Talk to your dog to keep him interested in you.
6. Avoid crowed places and distractions.
7. Do not use a retractable leash with Head Halter.
