"Limber tail" syndrome has many names like – Frozen Tail, Cold Water Tail, and Rudder Tail. This syndrome is seen in hunting dog breeds and the common breeds affects are – Labradors Retrievers and Irish Setters. The age group of affected dogs ranges between six months to nine years.
Diagnosis
The dog's tail goes limp and hangs down from the tail base or it is held horizontally three to four inches and then drops down. The dog may seem uncomfortable and some pain is experienced.

Cause
The exact cause of Limber Tail Syndrome is not known. However experiments and experience have shown that tough workouts, excessive swimming in cold water and long hunting time may be responsible for this.
Treatment
Since this not a serious condition, painkillers like aspirin may be give to subdue the pain if any. A complete recovery takes around 2-3 weeks.
