A dog owner may want to breed due to various reasons - Out of love and affection for this dog – so that he can get more dogs like he has or for financial reasons i.e. selling the pups.
What ever be they reason dog owner must act responsibly and must put dogs health above anything thing else in the process.

Check List

Age
The dog should mate only when she is biologically primed for mating. It is advised the age should be atleast 18 months.

Health
Before you mate your dog you must visit your vet and find out if the health condition is ok or not. The vet will check for genetic defects, sexually transmitted diseases and other health issues.
Cross Breeding
In case you are planning to mate your dog with another one from a different breed, you must consult your vet to find out if they are any complication involved and if the offspring will be healthy.

Look for a Match
You should find a suitable match for Bitch / Dog and for this you can contact any breeder. You have to be careful while selecting the match, as the 50% of the genes will be driven by your mate selection.
The breeder should help you in process. Make sure you check the authenticity of the mate’s health and verify that he is not a carrier of any genetic defects.

The Mating Process


  • The mating should be done at Studs Place.
  • The mating should always be performed at the most opportune moment. You should hold mating sessions for your dog during the 9th, 11th, and 13th days for it to be most productive.
  • It is also recommended that the mating process between the bitch and the stud last for a good 10-15 minutes.
  • Supervise the mating process and if the bitch refuses, you should aid in the mating process by trying to calm her down.
